Bats & Spiders

Today we read the book Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. Stellaluna is a charming story about a fruit bat whose world is turned upside down. The class became batty for bats! It got the class thinking, what's creepier, spiders or bats? Although there really is nothing to fear about bats or spiders, it's fun to let our imaginations run wild, especially around Halloween! We learn both these creatures are beneficial. Here are some facts we learned:

Spider Facts
- Spiders have 8 legs
- spiders spin webs
- Spiders eat insects
- Spiders make webs to catch their food

Bat Facts
- Bats are nocturnal and sleep during the day
- Bats have wings and can fly
- Most bats eat insects or fruit

The class got to pick what they thought was scarier and colored in the spider or bat. We put creatures on a graph and counted the number of bats vs. spiders!
