Working with Scissors

Scissor skills are important pre-writing skills because they help the strengthen hand muscles. Cutting with scissors provides the child with lots of practice in using the tripod fingers together (the thumb, forefinger and middle finger). I have a few students who didn't know how to hold scissors or open and shut to cut with their scissors. I really wanted to do something that really caught their eye.  I glued Pom-Poms on the top of all the scissors in class. It definitely helped...a lot!  All I have to say is "Pom-Poms on top", and they immediately switch if need be.
